Best Shopify alternatives in India (2026)

Shopify is the best checkout in the business and the most expensive way to run a small Indian store. These are the options sellers actually switch to, with the trade-offs spelled out.

Sellers rarely leave Shopify because the product is bad. They leave because the maths stops working at Indian order values. Basic Shopify costs roughly ₹1,994 a month billed yearly (about ₹2,420 month to month) as of October 2026, the domain is extra, and on the lower plans there is an additional transaction fee when you use an Indian gateway such as Razorpay or PhonePe instead of Shopify Payments. A Jaipur seller doing forty orders a month at ₹600 each is paying a meaningful slice of margin before shipping is even counted; our payment gateway comparison shows what those fees look like.

The second complaint is that everything Indian is an app. UPI checkout, cash on delivery with a confirmation step, GST-compliant invoices with HSN codes, Shiprocket or Delhivery labels: all of it works, but each piece is a separate install, often with its own monthly fee, and the admin panel fills up quickly. A free GST invoice generator covers the invoicing part for low volumes, but not inside the Shopify checkout. Shopify bills in INR and issues a tax invoice, so GST itself is not the problem; the stacking cost is.

The list below ranks alternatives for a typical Indian product seller. We have placed Neweb fifth, because Neweb is built for service businesses and small catalogues rather than a 500-SKU store, and we say plainly where each option beats it.

Moving

How to migrate from Shopify.

1

Export products, customers and orders as CSV

Shopify exports products (with variants, images as URLs, SKUs and HSN values if you stored them in metafields), customers and orders from the admin as CSV files. Download all three, then save your theme as a zip from Online Store so you have a reference for layouts and copy. Export blog posts separately; they are not in the product file.

2

Free the domain

If Shopify registered your domain, open Settings, Domains, unlock it and request the transfer authorisation code; the transfer takes five to seven days. If the domain sits at GoDaddy, BigRock or another registrar, leave it there and plan a DNS change on launch day. Lower the TTL a day ahead so the switch propagates quickly.

3

Rebuild and redirect every product URL

Shopify paths look like /products/handle and /collections/name. Import the CSV into WooCommerce or your new store, then map each old path to its new one and load the list as 301 redirects. Keep product handles identical where you can; it halves the redirect work and protects Google Shopping listings.

4

Reconnect payments, shipping and Google

Set up Razorpay or Cashfree on the new store before launch, re-create COD rules and shipping zones, and connect Shiprocket or Delhivery. Submit the new sitemap in Search Console, update Merchant Center feeds, change the website link on your Google Business Profile, then close Shopify after a month of parallel running.

FAQ

Shopify alternatives questions

What is the cheapest Shopify alternative in India?

For a real store, WooCommerce on Indian shared hosting is cheapest at roughly ₹149 to ₹299 a month plus domain, with no platform transaction fee. Dukaan at about ₹552 a month is the cheapest hosted store with UPI and COD ready. If you mostly need a presence plus UPI payments rather than a catalogue, Neweb at ₹249 a month costs less than any of them.

Which Shopify alternative has the best UPI and COD support?

Dukaan and WooCommerce. Dukaan ships with UPI checkout and cash on delivery enabled, and WooCommerce gets the same through free Razorpay, PayU, Cashfree or PhonePe plugins plus a built-in COD option. Instamojo is strong on UPI for solo sellers. Our guide on how to choose a payment gateway in India covers fees and settlement times.

Can I export my Shopify store?

Yes, more completely than most builders. Products, customers, orders and gift cards export as CSV, blog posts export through the admin, and your theme downloads as a zip. What does not transfer is app data and checkout settings, so discounts, shipping rules and abandoned-cart flows must be rebuilt on the new platform.

Do these alternatives issue GST invoices?

WooCommerce hosting from Indian hosts, Dukaan, Instamojo, Zoho Commerce, Hostinger and Neweb all bill in INR and issue GST invoices against your GSTIN. Wix bills Indian accounts in INR but confirm the invoice format before paying. Shopify itself also bills Indian merchants in INR, so the move is about cost, not compliance.

Will I lose Google rankings or Shopping listings if I leave Shopify?

Not if you redirect carefully. Keep the domain, 301 every /products and /collections URL to its replacement, keep titles and descriptions close to the originals, and resubmit the product feed in Merchant Center. Expect two to four weeks of small movement; stores on a faster host usually recover to the same or better positions.

Is Shopify worth it for a small Indian seller?

If you ship more than a few hundred orders a month and value a checkout that never breaks, usually yes; the fee is small against that volume. Under about fifty orders a month, the ₹2,000 subscription plus app fees and gateway surcharges often exceed what a WooCommerce or Dukaan store would cost, which is why most switches happen at that size.
