How to make a cafe website in India (2026)

A cafe website is mostly a menu, a map and a reason to visit. This guide shows how to build one that ranks for "cafe near me", keeps Zomato commission off your dine-in customers, and costs less than a week of coffee beans.

Cafes in India get customers three ways: walking past, Google Maps, and Instagram. A website strengthens the second and third. When someone searches "cafe near me" or "best coffee in Koramangala", Google shows a Maps listing, and the listing links to a website; a cafe without one looks temporary. When an Instagram reel goes around, the bio link should land on a menu with prices and a map, not a DM request.

The site also lets you take direct orders and table bookings without paying the 20 to 30 percent commission delivery apps typically charge. The steps below assume no coding and a weekend of effort. Neweb for cafes automates most of it; the structure applies to any builder.

What you'll need

Get these ready, especially the menu with prices; it is the page people actually read.

  • Full menu with prices, grouped (Coffee, Tea, Breakfast, Mains, Desserts, Shakes), with veg and non-veg markers and anything you are known for flagged.
  • Opening hours including weekend hours and any weekly closure.
  • Address with pincode and landmark, and an exact pin on Google Maps.
  • 15 to 20 photos: the counter, seating, three signature items, the exterior with the sign.
  • Delivery app links (Swiggy, Zomato, ONDC-based apps) if you are listed.
  • WhatsApp Business number for bookings and bulk orders, and a UPI ID.
  • FSSAI licence number; it belongs in the footer, and customers look for it.
01

Register a domain and claim the matching Instagram handle

Use the cafe name: brewandbeanindore.in or thecornerhouse.cafe if you like the newer extension. A .in typically costs ₹500 to ₹900 a year, a .com ₹900 to ₹1,500; .cafe and .coffee are pricier, often ₹1,500 to ₹3,000. Check names with the domain checker. Neweb's Starter plan includes a free .in or .com in your name.

Keep the Instagram handle, Google Business name and domain consistent. Google cross-references them, and so do customers.

02

Build the menu page first, as text, with prices

Do not upload the menu as a photo or PDF. Google cannot read it, phones cannot search it, and it goes blurry on a 6-inch screen. Type it out: item, one-line description, price, veg or non-veg mark. Group by section and put your signature items at the top of each group.

A text menu is also what powers "cafe with filter coffee near me" style searches; the words on your menu page become search terms. Add two or three photos per section, compressed with the image compressor, not one per item.

  • Mark allergens and "contains egg" where relevant; it reduces counter questions.
  • Show prices including GST if you charge it; surprise tax on the bill is a one-star review waiting to happen.
03

Add the homepage essentials: hours, map, call, directions

Above the fold on the homepage: one photo, the cafe name and locality, today's hours, and three buttons: Call, Directions, WhatsApp. Below it: the three items you are known for, two or three Google reviews, and a link to the full menu.

Embed Google Maps with your exact pin. If you are inside a complex or on a first floor, write that in text ("First floor, above HDFC ATM, 12th Main"). Customers decide between two cafes in the 30 seconds it takes to load this page; make the decision easy.

04

Take bookings and bulk orders on WhatsApp

Most cafes do not need a reservation system. A WhatsApp button pre-filled with "Hi, I'd like to book a table for __ people on __ at __" handles 95% of requests. Build the link with the WhatsApp link generator. Add a second one for bulk and office orders ("Hi, I'd like a quote for __ boxes of __"); this is high-margin business that rarely comes through delivery apps.

If you host events (open mic, board game nights, workshops), put a simple events list on the homepage with a WhatsApp RSVP; it keeps the site changing, which both regulars and Google reward.

05

Add direct ordering and payments to cut app commission

Delivery apps are useful for reach but typically take 20 to 30 percent of each order. For regulars within a kilometre, offer a direct route: a WhatsApp order button, a UPI QR from the UPI QR code generator for payment, and your own delivery or a pickup counter. Print the QR on tables and the counter so dine-in payment is instant too.

Still list your Swiggy and Zomato links on the site for customers who want app delivery, and consider ONDC-based apps with lower commission; our ONDC guide explains the setup.

06

Set up Google Business Profile and get reviews rolling

"Cafe near me" is answered by Google Maps, so this step matters more than any design choice. Claim your Google Business Profile, set the primary category to "Cafe" or "Coffee shop", add the menu link, hours, photos and attributes (Wi-Fi, outdoor seating, pet-friendly). Link the website.

Ask for reviews at the counter with a QR code to your review link; aim for a few every week rather than a burst. Reply to each one. Cafes with recent photo reviews rank above older, bigger names in most Indian localities. Our reviews post has scripts that work.

07

Add the footer legal lines, test on a phone, launch

Footer: legal business name, address, phone, email, FSSAI licence number, GSTIN if registered, and links to a short privacy policy (the privacy policy generator drafts it). Then open the site on a phone over mobile data: tap Call, Directions, WhatsApp and the menu link, and check the map pin lands on your door.

Put the link in your Instagram bio and on the Google profile, and print it on the bill. Update the menu whenever prices change; a stale price online is the most common complaint cafe owners get after launching.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Menu as a JPEG or PDF. Invisible to Google, unreadable on phones, and it is the one page everyone wants.
  • Hours on the site that differ from Google. Someone drives over at 8 am because the site said so.
  • No address landmark. "Near the metro" is not a landmark; "Opposite Reliance Smart, Gate 2" is.
  • Relying only on Zomato and Swiggy. Their commission on your regulars is the largest avoidable cost in the business.
  • Heavy photo sliders. Three good photos beat twelve slow ones.
  • Ignoring reviews. An unanswered one-star review on Maps costs more customers than any website flaw.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does a cafe website cost in India?

Typically ₹249 a month on Neweb with the domain, hosting, SSL and Google Business setup included; ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 upfront from a freelancer plus ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 a year for hosting and domain; or ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 a year on Wix or Squarespace with the domain extra after the first year.

Should I put my menu on the website with prices?

Yes, as text with prices, not as a photo or PDF. A text menu is searchable, readable on phones, and gives Google the words it needs to show your cafe for dish-specific searches. Update it whenever prices change.

Do I need online ordering on a cafe website?

Not a full system. A WhatsApp order button and a UPI QR code cover direct orders from nearby regulars and avoid delivery-app commission. Keep your Swiggy and Zomato links for customers who prefer app delivery.

How do I get my cafe to show up on Google Maps?

Claim and verify your Google Business Profile, set the category to Cafe or Coffee shop, add hours, photos, menu link and the website, and collect recent reviews. Mention your locality on the website homepage so Google connects the two.

Do I need to show my FSSAI number on the website?

FSSAI requires the licence number to be displayed at the premises and on invoices; putting it in the website footer is good practice, reassures customers and is expected by delivery platforms.

Can I take table bookings without a booking system?

Yes. A WhatsApp link with a pre-filled booking message handles most cafe reservations in India. Reservation software only makes sense once you turn away walk-ins regularly.
