Pet care in India is five businesses, and the website should know which one you are

Pet ownership in Indian cities has grown fast, and with it a set of small businesses that did not exist at scale a decade ago: veterinary clinics, groomers and mobile grooming vans, boarding and daycare, trainers and behaviourists, and pet stores. They share a customer, the urban pet parent who searches "dog groomer near me", "vet open on Sunday", "pet boarding for Diwali", and who treats the pet as family. They differ in what the website must do. A vet clinic needs doctor profiles and an emergency line. A groomer needs a price list by size and a before-and-after gallery. A boarding facility needs an availability calendar and a vaccination checklist. A trainer needs programmes and results. A store needs a catalogue. Neweb sets up the right structure during onboarding and shares the blocks that overlap.

Regulation is light but real. Veterinarians must be registered under the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984 with the Veterinary Council of India or a state council, and the Council's code of conduct limits advertising, so a vet's site should be informational, much like a doctor's. Pet shops and dog breeders are required to register with their State Animal Welfare Board under the Pet Shop Rules, 2018 and the Dog Breeding and Marketing Rules, 2017, both issued under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Groomers, boarders and trainers have no specific licence in most states but operate under the same Act and often under municipal trade licences. Neweb shows whichever registrations apply in the footer and leaves the rest hidden.

Services and prices by size, breed and need

Pet parents want prices and they want them by their pet. A grooming price list means nothing without size bands: small (up to 10 kg), medium, large, giant, with add-ons for de-matting, tick treatment and nail clipping. A vet consultation fee, vaccination schedule with per-dose prices, and deworming by weight are what a new puppy parent searches for in the first month. Boarding is per night by size with a note on what is included (meals, walks, playtime, medication administration). Training is by programme: puppy basics, obedience, behaviour correction, with sessions and duration. Neweb's services block handles all of these as tables with size bands, and a sold-out or fully-booked toggle where capacity matters.

Publishing prices does for pet care what it does for salons: it filters enquiries to people who have already decided and ends the "how much for a golden retriever?" calls. For vets, where advertising rules apply, prices are presented as information on a fees page rather than as offers, and discounts are avoided.

Diwali boarding used to be forty calls a day. Now parents see the calendar, read the vaccination list and book on WhatsApp with the certificate attached.

Bookings, vaccination records and the reminder loop

The booking conversation for pet care already happens on WhatsApp, with a photo of the dog and "can you do Saturday?". Neweb's booking button opens that chat with prompts for pet name, breed, age, service and preferred slot, so the message your front desk receives is confirmable in one reply. For vets, the prompt adds "is this an emergency?" and the site shows a sticky call button with emergency hours, because an emergency enquiry should never wait for a WhatsApp reply.

Reminders are where a pet business earns loyalty. Annual vaccinations, quarterly deworming, monthly tick and flea treatment, and six-weekly grooming are predictable, and a reminder a week before, sent through the newsletter included in every plan to parents who opted in, brings the pet back without a marketing campaign. Vets can pair this with a simple vaccination card page per pet on the Growth plan; on Starter, the reminder carries the schedule as text.

Boarding, daycare and the festival calendar

Boarding demand in India spikes around Diwali, Christmas and New Year, the summer school holidays and long weekends, and it spikes early: parents book kennels weeks ahead. A boarding website needs three things: a calendar showing availability by size, a clear list of requirements (vaccination certificates, tick-free, a trial day for first-timers), and photos of the actual kennels, runs and play areas, not stock images. Neweb's boarding preset ships all three, with the calendar updated from the dashboard and the requirements shown before the enquiry so that unvaccinated pets are not booked and refused at the door.

Daycare runs on weekday routines rather than festivals: working parents in Gurugram, Whitefield or Hinjewadi who drop the dog at 9 and collect at 6. Monthly packages, pickup and drop options, and a daily photo update promise are what they compare on. The site presents these as packages with prices and makes the trial day the primary call to action.

Local SEO for pet businesses: "near me" plus the breed

Pet searches are local and specific: "dog groomer near me", "vet in Koramangala", "cat boarding Mumbai", "Labrador grooming price", "pet shop open now". The Google Business Profile wins most of the "near me" searches, and Neweb claims, verifies and syncs it for each location, with the right category (veterinary care, pet groomer, pet boarding service, pet store) and hours. The website adds the long tail: a page per service, a page per locality served, and for groomers and boarders a page per breed group, since parents of a Persian cat or a husky search for someone who handles their breed.

Reviews with photos are the strongest signal in this category, because pet parents post pictures of a freshly groomed dog without being asked. A review request on WhatsApp after the visit with a direct link, and the latest reviews shown on the site, compound over months. For vets, keep the request neutral and informational, in line with the Council's advertising limits.

Pet stores, online orders and the registration question

Pet stores sell food, accessories and, in some cases, live animals. Food and accessories can be listed with prices and ordered on WhatsApp with UPI payment, and a catalogue with a sold-out toggle works well for the recurring food orders that make up most of a store's revenue. Live animal sales are where the rules bite: the Pet Shop Rules, 2018 require registration with the State Animal Welfare Board and set standards for housing and care, and the Dog Breeding and Marketing Rules, 2017 require breeders to register and to sell only registered animals with records. If you sell animals, show your registration number on the site and avoid listing animals for sale online without checking your state board's position. Neweb's store preset lists food and accessories by default and leaves live animal listings off unless you turn them on.

GST applies at standard rates to pet food, accessories and services, and veterinary services by a registered vet are generally exempt; confirm the specifics with your accountant. The site shows your GSTIN where applicable and links to a receipt generator for WhatsApp orders.

FAQ

Pet care questions

What registrations should a pet business show on its website?

Veterinarians: registration with the Veterinary Council of India or state council. Pet shops and breeders: State Animal Welfare Board registration under the Pet Shop Rules, 2018 and the Dog Breeding and Marketing Rules, 2017. Groomers, boarders and trainers usually need only a municipal trade licence and GST where applicable. Neweb shows whichever apply in the footer and hides the rest.

Can a vet clinic advertise its services online?

A vet's website should be informational, since the Veterinary Council's code of conduct limits advertising much as the medical codes do: doctors with registration numbers, services, fees as information, timings, emergency hours and how to book. Avoid discounts, superlatives and guaranteed outcomes. Neweb's vet preset is written in that register.

How do pet parents book through the site?

A WhatsApp button on every page opens a chat with prompts for pet name, breed, age, service and preferred slot, and for vets, whether it is an emergency. Reception confirms with one reply. Live slot booking with capacity limits is on the Growth plan, which boarding and daycare businesses tend to use.

How much does a pet care website cost on Neweb?

₹249 a month on the Starter plan, including the website, a free domain for the first year, hosting, SSL, Google Business Profile setup and sync, the newsletter for vaccination and grooming reminders, and SEO. Multi-location chains and businesses that want live boarding calendars use the Growth plan at ₹1,299 a month.

Can I show boarding availability for Diwali and Christmas?

Yes. The boarding preset includes an availability calendar by size that you update from the dashboard, with the vaccination and trial-day requirements shown before the enquiry. Parents book weeks ahead for festivals; showing availability early captures those bookings.

Can a pet store sell online through the site?

Food and accessories, yes: a catalogue with prices, WhatsApp ordering and UPI payment, or a full cart on the Growth plan. Live animals are a different matter under the 2017 and 2018 rules; show your State Animal Welfare Board registration and check your state board's position before listing animals online.

Will the site send vaccination and grooming reminders?

Yes, through the newsletter included in every plan, to pet parents who opt in. Set the schedule (annual vaccination, quarterly deworming, six-weekly grooming) and reminders go out a week before. On the Growth plan, each pet can have a vaccination card page.
